Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 12th April 2025

Welcome to Journey of Five. Your privacy is important to us, and we’re committed to protecting any personal information you share while visiting our website.

Who We Are

Our website address is: https://journeyoffive.com.au

We’re a family travel and lifestyle blog documenting our journey toward full-time travel, and sharing content to inspire and support other families looking to live more intentionally.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you’re using it. You can read the Gravatar privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture will be visible to the public alongside your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, please avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site may be able to download and extract location data from uploaded images.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you don’t have to re-enter your details when leaving another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page (for contributors or team members), we’ll set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we set cookies to save your login information and screen display preferences. Login cookies last two days; screen option cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.

If you edit or publish a blog post, a cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data—it simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Posts on this site may include embedded content (e.g. YouTube videos, Instagram posts, or articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves the same way as if you visited those websites directly.

These external sites may collect data, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with their content—including tracking if you have an account and are logged in to that service.

Who We Share Your Data With

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

We do not sell or rent your personal information to any third party.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment, it and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This helps us recognize and approve future comments automatically.

If you register an account (e.g. to contribute content), we store the personal information provided in your profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their personal info at any time (username changes not included). Website admins can also access and edit this info.

Your Data Rights

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we delete your personal data—excluding any data we’re required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

To make a request, contact us via our Contact page.

Where Your Data Is Sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy as needed. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
